Incident overview

Overview is the incident’s identity card: the name people will say on the radio, the Incident ID, status, dates, agency contacts, and the ICP. Those fields also feed the map — a looked-up fire can bring its perimeter with it, and an ICP with coordinates shows as the standard command-post symbol.

The page is read-only until you hit Edit. Cancel puts the old values back; Save overview commits. That keeps someone who is only reading from bumping a closed date. Status is Open, Closed, Archived, or Test. Owners can change it; everyone else sees a pill. Closed stays in step with the closed date. Archived makes day-to-day work view-only (owners can still change status unless the whole incident has been locked). Test is for practice fires you do not want mixed with the real ones. Create only offers Test and Live (Live becomes Open). If the incident will not save and says it is locked, ask your system admin.

New incidents start mapping-only — there is no management switch on create. You still have Overview and the full map — sites, coverage, frequencies on the pads. Inventory, Batteries, People, Logs, and Diagrams stay hidden until someone with access opens Admin → Modules and turns Incident Management on, then enables the pieces you actually need. You can flip individual modules later without turning the whole unit into a filing cabinet.

Lookup / Import searches national fire data and can fill the name, Incident ID, contacts, location, financial codes, and the behind-the-scenes fire identity used to auto-load the perimeter. When a field already has a different value, you pick Current or New so a manual ICP does not get stomped. Empty fields fill without asking. Create incident on the Dashboard can do the same import before the incident exists.

Geocode will take a street, a school name, or a fairgrounds and try to put a point on it. Latitude and longitude accept the usual mixed formats and store as decimal degrees. The ICP location name (Springfield HS, the fairgrounds) is separate from the raw address, and it becomes the default “shipped from” when you write a waybill later.
